|
|
The University of York's EMC Service engineers harmonics and flicker generators. These tools have been designed to allow test laboratories and other organisations owning harmonics and flicker test equipment to periodically check it to ensure that consistent results are obtained over time.
The HFG01 simulates the equipment under test (EUT), generating repeatable levels of harmonic and flicker disturbances. The modes of operation are defined in a microcontroller, allowing units to be reprogrammed to take into account any future changes in standards.
The HFG01 has the following modes of operation:
Steady state harmonics:
A harmonic rich current waveform is produced in this mode which simulates Class D equipment. The harmonic levels produced will fail both the EN61000-3-2:1995 and EN61000-3-2:2000 Class D limits, but will pass the Class A limits.
Fluctuating harmonics:
In this mode, the generator alternates between two current waveforms over a 10 second cycle. This waveform fails the EN61000-3-2:1995 (pre A14) Class D limit but passes the EN61000-3-2:2000 (A14 amendment) Class D limits.
Flicker:
In the flicker mode, a fixed level of mains disturbance is generated at a rate of 8.33Hz or 1Hz. When tested to EN/IEC 61000-3-3, the 8.33Hz rate produces a Pst >1, which lies above the limit line. The 1Hz setting produces a Pst <1, which falls below the same limit.
