Hot and humid environments can lead to fungus which may cause equipment damage and, further, create a health liability. These conditions, which can pose health risks, can be simulated in a controlled environmental test.

Some environmental test facility use dedicated fungus chambers to subject either a test item or items to the Mil-Std fungus spores. This environmental testing needs 24-hr/7-day monitoring to insure that the proper test conditions are maintained. Control samples are included in all environmental tests to ascertain proper conditions -- which allow to grow the mold spores -- have been maintained.
