A reputable and efficacious environmental-test facility-- or environment test chamber -- should be able to recreate a desert storm or the air blast from an aircraft with the wind-driven abrasion and erosion of sand and dust, combined with actual temperatures. Mil-Std environmental testing is performed may be carried out in a facility separate from the main facility -- or even outdoors. The winds for this environmental test are created using a large electric-motor with a blower.

For example, two separate environment-testing facilities may be used for dust testing. A 13-ft standard facility is used for smaller systems with an effective work area of 64 cu ft. A second facility is often a large drive-in chamber for larger environmental test items, such as full-sized vehicles.
