The following was noted by a fellow EMC tech:
I recently obtained Narte EMC Technician Certification. I studied for about 3 months at about 1.5 hours a day, and passed on the first try.
Take a nice variety of documents from your EMC/EMI experience to the
test since it is open book. Keep in mind that the questions come
from others applying for certification (10 question pool that is
part of the application) based on their own EMC/EMI experience....so
heavily referenced and recent documents can be very helpful. I would
take ANSI C63.4 if you have it. The technician level test is tougher
than one might think. Personally, I think that some of the questions
were more at the engineer level. I think it is a very good
certification to have for one that wants to be in this profession
long term....and since there is no other relevant certification for
our profession, than I say go for it. Also, NARTE's website lists a
bunch of reference documents for study, but unless they recently
updated it, I think it is rather outdated....and I found myself not
using most of the references that I brought.
The only con I could think of for getting the Engineer level
certification over the technician level, is that one may be
overqualified for some jobs.....but I could be wrong about that.
Good luck |
